International winter school: "EEG and ERP: from data to interpretation"

We are happy to announce the winter school about measuring and analysing EEG data that takes place from 16th to 19th of December in Tartu, Näituse 2 (r. 113). It is co-organised by researchers from the Research Group of Experimental Psychology at the University of Tartu and the Department of Psychology at the University of Jyväskylä. Among others, the supervisors are Piia Astikainen, Paavo Leppänen, Fengyu Cong, Jarmo Hämäläinen, Risto Näätänen, Andero Uusberg, Kairi Kreegipuu and Jaan Aru.

We also offer open lectures to everyone interested:

December 16th

13:15 – 14:45 Introduction to EEG analysis (Andero Uusberg): Neural origins of EEG: oscillations in the brain and on the scalp. Evolution of analysis paradigms (and intro to the course): evoked potentials; time frequency analysis; source analysis.
15:00 - 16:30 Preprocessing: maximizing signal and minimizing noise (Andero Uusberg): Sources of artefacts. Filtering. Ocular correction vs rejection.
16:45 – 18:30 Data reduction and statistics (Andero Uusberg): Challenges of multi-dimensional data. Mass-univariate approach. Regions of interest approach. Topographic ERP approach.

December 17th

9:00-10:30 Risto Näätänen “MMN: a breakthrough biomarker in psychosis prediction”
10:45- 12:00 “What exactly to do to find the vMMN?” (a didactic walk through a data-set, Kairi Kreegipuu)

December 18th

10:30 -11:30 INTERACTIVE LECTURE “Multi-way Array Decomposition for Time-Frequency Represented ERPs” (Fengyu Cong)
11:30-13:00 INTERACTIVE LECTURE "Can one unravel fundamental mechanisms of brain functioning with time-frequency analysis of EEG data?" (Jaan Aru)

December 19th

9:00-12:00 INTERACTIVE LECTURE “Source localization” (Jarmo Hämäläinen and Paavo Leppänen): Focus on only BESA supported source solutions. Applied point-of-view. Forward, inverse solutions. Head models. Dipoles. Distributed solutions. Source waveforms.
