The Tartu City Marathon weekend begins with the Friday Night Run, held in the atmospheric streets of Tartu’s Old Town in autumn. What makes the event unique is its late-evening start at 21:00 and its four-kilometre distance, making it accessible to participants of all fitness levels. Although it is not a competitive race, participants can choose during registration whether to complete the run with or without official timing.
For more information, see the Friday Night Run homepage (in Estonian).
When it comes to physical activity, it is not the pace or results that matter most, but the opportunity to be active, spend time outdoors and enjoy a sense of wellbeing. Everyone can choose a distance and pace that suits them and prepare for the event independently or by joining organised training sessions.
Put on your University of Tartu sportswear, invite your colleagues, fellow students or friends, and head to the starting line together.
When registering for an event, select "Tartu Ülikool" as your team in the “OTHER INFORMATION” section. A 30% discount will then be automatically applied to the registration fee, based on the price in effect at the time of registration. As participation fees change during the registration period and generally increase as the event approaches, participants are encouraged to register early.

Come and cheer for UT members!
All university members, together with family and friends, are invited to cheer for participants in the Friday Night Run. You can support them anywhere along the course or at the university’s cheer station, which will be in front of the university’s main building.
A limited number of T-shirts and bobble hats with the University of Tartu logo will be available at the cheer stations for students and staff to wear when supporting fellow UT members. To receive these, please bring your UT employee ID card, student card, or another document confirming your affiliation with the University of Tartu.
